Sonification

Sonification is the use of non speech audio to convey information or represent data.[1] By mapping data values to qualities of sound such as pitch, volume, or rhythm, it lets people perceive patterns and changes by listening, which can complement or replace visual displays.

It is used in fields ranging from science and medicine to accessibility and interface design, where hearing data can be faster or more practical than seeing it. Designing effective sonification means choosing mappings that are intuitive and informative, so that the sound genuinely communicates rather than merely decorates.[2]
