Audio Restoration
Audio restoration is the process of repairing recordings that have been degraded by noise, damage, or the limitations of old equipment.[1] Using specialized tools, restorers reduce hiss, hum, clicks, crackle, and distortion while trying to preserve as much of the original sound as possible.
The work is a careful balance, since aggressive processing can remove problems but also strip away detail and life from a recording. Skilled restoration recovers historical and damaged material for reissue, archiving, and reuse, often rescuing audio that would otherwise be unusable.[2]
