Conform & Synchronization

Conform and synchronization is the alignment of audio to a reference, typically the picture, so that every element sits in its correct position.[1] Conforming updates an audio edit to match changes in the picture edit, while synchronization locks sound precisely to the corresponding images using timecode.

This work is essential whenever audio and picture are handled separately or when versions change during production. A correct conform ensures that dialogue, effects, and music all land exactly where they should, which is the foundation of a soundtrack that stays in sync from start to finish.[2]
