XR Location Audio

XR location audio is sound that is anchored to positions in space within extended reality, the umbrella term for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.[1] Sources are placed at coordinates in the real or virtual world so that, as the user moves and turns, the audio updates to remain convincingly fixed in place.

This spatial anchoring is central to immersion, because believable extended reality depends on sound and vision agreeing about where things are. It also serves practical functions, drawing attention to points of interest and helping users orient themselves within an experience.[2]
