Orchestra Recording
Orchestra recording captures a large body of musicians, typically organized into string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections, performing together in a hall or scoring stage.[1] The acoustics of the room are an essential part of the sound, so recordings usually rely on a main microphone array to capture the orchestra as a whole, supported by section and spot microphones.
Sessions demand careful planning of seating, balance, and headphone or click arrangements, especially when recording to picture for film and games. The engineer's task is to preserve the scale and natural blend of the orchestra while retaining enough separation to address balance and detail in the mix.[2]
