Score & Chart Preparation
Score and chart preparation is the work of producing clean, accurate performance materials, including the full conductor score and the individual parts that each player reads.[1] Well prepared materials use clear notation, sensible page turns, rehearsal marks, and correct transpositions so that a recording session runs efficiently and without confusion.
For commercial and rhythm based music, preparation often takes the form of lead sheets and chord charts that summarize melody, harmony, and structure rather than notating every note.[2] In both cases the aim is the same, which is to give performers exactly the information they need to deliver a confident take with minimal rehearsal time.[3]
