Accents & Dialects

Accents and dialects are variations in how a language is spoken, differing in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar between regions and social groups.[1] In voice work, providing a targeted accent or dialect makes a character believable and places them in a specific time, region, or background.

Delivering them well calls for performers and coaches who can reproduce the sounds accurately and consistently across a whole project. Thoughtful, well researched use lends authenticity, whereas an inaccurate accent can undermine a performance or misrepresent the people it portrays.[2]
