ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement)
ADR, or automated dialogue replacement, is the process of re-recording an actor's lines in a studio and syncing them to the picture, used when the original location audio is unusable or needs changing.[1] The performer watches the scene and re-performs each line to match their on screen lip movements and timing, a practice also known as looping.
ADR addresses problems such as background noise, technical faults, or script changes, and it lets performances be refined after the shoot. The recorded lines are then processed to match the acoustic character of the scene so they blend with the surrounding production sound.[2]
