Facial Motion Capture

Facial motion capture records the movements of a performer's face and uses that data to drive the expressions of a digital character.[1] Cameras and markers, or markerless systems, track the subtle motion of features so that animated faces move with the nuance of a real performance.

It is frequently recorded together with the performer's voice so that speech and facial movement stay perfectly aligned, which is vital for believable characters. The captured data gives animators a faithful starting point, preserving the timing and emotion of the original performance.[2]
