Dialogue Editing

Dialogue editing is the preparation of all the spoken material in a production, assembling the best takes, smoothing transitions, and removing noises and distractions.[1] The editor works to make conversations sound continuous and clear, even when they are built from takes recorded at different times or from a mix of production sound and ADR.

Much of the task involves managing background tone so that edits do not produce audible jumps, and organizing tracks for the final mix. Clean, well organized dialogue is the backbone of most soundtracks, since intelligible speech is usually the audience's primary concern.[2]
