Voice Matching (Voice Alikes)

Voice matching is the casting or performance of a voice that closely resembles an existing one, producing what is often called a soundalike.[1] It is used to maintain continuity when an original performer is unavailable, or to evoke a familiar voice for a localized version of a character.

The craft requires a performer who can reproduce another voice's timbre and mannerisms convincingly, sometimes supported by direction and processing. Because it touches on a person's recognizable identity, voice matching also carries legal and ethical considerations around rights and disclosure.[2]
