Cultural Adaptation


Cultural adaptation is the reworking of content so that it makes sense and resonates within a specific culture, going beyond literal translation.[1] In localization it addresses references, humor, idioms, and conventions that would otherwise be confusing or fall flat, while preserving the original intent and tone.

Deep cultural adaptation may change names, jokes, or examples so that a local audience experiences the work as it was meant to feel rather than as a foreign import. It requires both linguistic skill and genuine familiarity with the target culture, and it is essential for content intended to travel across regions.[2]
