M&E (Music & Effects) Preparation

M&E preparation is the creation of a music and effects stem, a full mix of a program that contains everything except the original language dialogue.^[1] This deliverable lets a title be dubbed into other languages, since new dialogue can be added on top of a complete bed of music and sound effects.

Preparing a clean M&E requires filling any gaps left when dialogue is removed, so that effects and Foley remain continuous beneath the missing voices. A well made M&E is essential for international distribution, because without it a faithful localized version cannot be produced.^[2]
